Expression of Interest are invited for Indonesia: Protecting SMEs and Jobs through Disaster Risk Finance Description: Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) play a pivotal role in the Indonesian economy, constituting a significant portion of the business landscape and workforce. In 2019, over 64 million SMEs were operational in Indonesia, accounting for 99.99% of the total business population and employing 96.9% of the workforce. These enterprises contribute substantially to the national GDP, accounting for 60.5% of it. However, despite their economic significance, SMEs are particularly vulnerable to the impacts of natural hazards. By integrating disaster risk financing (DRF) measures, SMEs can enhance their financial resilience to absorb losses resulting from disasters and ensure business continuity. DRF mechanisms facilitate access to capital during post-disaster recovery, enabling SMEs to restore operations swiftly and mitigate long-term financial strain.
